It is with great sadness but submission to the will of God, that we, the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, Gusau, Nigeria, announce the passing away of Sr. Joan Ofoukwu, O.P. who died on August 17, 2015, Monday morning at the age of 70.
We acknowledged the motherly and sisterly role exhibited by Sr. Joan in our communities. The way she maintained good health all along was very encouraging. This must have kept her going. She was a good Catechism Instructor/Supervisor. Until her death, Sr. Joan was Catechism Teachers’ Supervisor at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Gusau, Zamfara State, Nigeria. A job which she loved and cherished, which drew many young catechism teachers to her. She refers to them as her ‘sons and daughters’. She was then transferred to our Community in Malumfashi, Katsina State where she was involved in less work due to health reasons.
We truly miss Sr. Joan and ask Almighty God to have mercy on her and grant her eternal rest in His kingdom. Amen.
